ICON - El Campo de Marte de Lima - Plaza de la Revolución, In Development
To celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of Peru’s Indipendence I was tasked with sketching and rendering El Icono, one of the proposals created by BWS to commemorate this historical milestone. El Icono is a walkable path through the trees in El Campo de Marte de Lima, following the iconic shape of the Marca Peru.
Marca Peru is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru in partnership with Peruvian companies and startups to promote the purchase and consumption of products created in Peru. It also seeks to boost tourism, exports and attract investments. Its logo represents one of the recurrent graphic motifs in the history of the cultures of Peru. The “P” in its spiral form recalls the shape of a fingerprint, in line with the concept of "there is a Peru for everyone".
Modeled and rendered in Blender, with some post-production done in Photoshop.

Destination Experience - Milan, Italy - 2020
“Il Natale degli Alberi (The Christmas of Trees) is the creative format by Marco Balich donated by the Bracco Foundation to the City of Milan to restore joy, solidarity and beauty throughout the city. The first edition of the open source format involved 21 private sponsors that have created “Author Trees” which have been widespread around the city of Milan to celebrate 2020 Christmas, respecting social distancing without making people feel lonely.
Milan has chosen to adopt the symbol of the tree to unite and narrate a composite and inclusive city through the values of solidarity, sustainability and beauty. The trees are not only in the centre but also in every neighborhood with the aim to unify all the areas of the city with shows of lights, colors and music.”
I had the chance to be involved as a Concept Artist on this project early in the development process and I produced 3D models, sketches and illustrations.
On its inception, “L’Albero del Dono” (The Tree of Gifts) was inspired by parametric architecture and the world of computational creativity. A paradoxical tree with a mechanical heart, made of lights, screens and secret compartments.
Designed to recall the exploded view of a clock (with gears made of Christmas lights) and assembled with light materials such as wood and metal meshes, the Tree of Gifts is able to mark the passing of time thanks to the precise movement of its components and to the timely use of its extraordinary contents by the citizens, the "gifts" that the Tree will donate on a regular basis to the city of Milan.
The gears, inspired by ideal mandalas (symbol of openness towards others and harmony with the Universe), are placed at regular intervals within the core of the structure, and at the base they serve as a stage for the performances of the various artists that will succeed one another during the month.
The concept for the Tree of the Gifts recalled in its forms the spiers of the Milan Cathedral, but replaced and filled the gravity of the original model with the tenuousness of its light spaces. A work that reflects and perfectly represents the city that hosts it: intrinsically linked to the past, but always facing the future.

Ceremony - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Fahd International Stadium - 2022
In one city, Saudi Arabia’s 13 regions unite to strike a common goal. In one cauldron, energies gather into celebratory games. With one torch, the Kingdom lights the path for future generations. As Saudi Arabia prepares for its First National Games, the spirit of the Olympics gathers the Kingdom around a grand sports celebration promoting excellence in performance, friendship all across the country, respect of diversity and cultures.
The Saudi Games Opening Ceremony is a grand emotional celebration of sports aimed to inspire young Saudi generations to reach the greatest achievements they can dream of, through the powerful values of sports. In a spectacle showcasing the beauty and greatness of sports, the Kingdom stands as one around Excellence, Friendship, Respect, Discipline, Team Spirit, Passion… and above all, Enjoyment. Incorporating protocol and artistic moments together, this historical event is an opportunity to introduce Saudi Arabia as a distinguished sports destination.
The set is a wide circular shape recalling the Olympic ring, extending across the field of play of King Fahd International Stadium. Two long runways from each side allow the parades and scenic action to flow in a continuous movement, while 8.000 seats will host the athletes and officials, equally distributed between the field of play and the stands. A giant screen projects the video content, accompanying the live action and the projections on the field of play.
The following is a brief extract of the planned ceremony. Created using Photoshop.

NATIONAL FLAG & ANTHEM: The Saudi National flag makes its triumphant entrance on stage, carried by the Saudi National Guard with dignity. A choir of children joins the Saudi National Guard on stage to sing the National Anthem in a common voice. The flag is raised by the Saudi National Guard and flutters high above the audience. A final burst of green fireworks emphasises the moment.
SPORT AMBASSADOR’S SPEECH: From her worldwide experience at the London Olympics in 2012, Sarah Attar addresses the audience as the Sports Ambassador in a heartfelt speech. A unique testimony before the whole Nation.
As she’s about to wrap up her speech, the young boy who’s been closely observing the celebrations approaches Sarah Attar hesitantly and he shares with her his big dream to become a sports star. She encourages him to follow the legacy her peers have started to trace, as if she’s handing him the testimony of the future.
RISING STARS: The scene shifts into a magic starry night and the dream of the young boy to become a sports star begins to materialise through an artistic act with pyro aerialists sparkling in the dark, as if it has begun to come to life at the wise and motivational words of Sarah Attar.
LIGHTING OF THE CAULDRON: Sarah Attar and Talal Malak Al Samiri light up the cauldron as a symbol of the triumphant burning flame of Saudi future ambitions and aspirations, carrying the positive values of sports and launching Saudi Arabia’s First National Games with pride and joy.
SPORTS CELEBRATION - GYMNASTICS: An aerialist appear from above and perform an impressive acrobatic scene with a spiral that recalls the shape of a gymnastic ribbon, while the choreography honours the diverse disciplines of this sport.
SPORTS CELEBRATION - WRESTLING: The projection of a wrestling mat appears. Spinning and swirling, it carries the performers all around the field of play. Sports floats carrying over-scaled symbolic accessories of different disciplines drive all around the stage.
SPORTS CELEBRATION - ARCHERY: The wrestling mat changes its colours to become a target, against which the performers shoots projected arrows.
Ceremony - Dubai, United Arab Emirates - October 1st, 2021 / March 31st, 2022
Expo 2020 is a World Exposition that is hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The expo’s theme is called "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future". Its three subthemes are: “opportunity”, “mobility” and “sustainability”, each with its own pavilion.
In turn, each participating country, along with their pavilion, has the opportunity to stage a show, displaying their beauties and cultural richness.
The Peru Pavilion shares with the world the ancient knowledge that allowed this incredible country to live for millennia in harmony with some of the planet’s most diverse natural environments. Visitors enter the Pavilion making an offering, then begin a journey of discovery of the rich heritage of this land, to end their visit celebrating its beauties by tasting its superfoods. The National Day Ceremony reflects this same journey by giving the Expo 2020 Dubai public an opportunity to experience it through specially adapted highlights from the recent Lima Panamerican and Para Panamerican Games 2019 opening ceremony, that dramatically reinforced Peru’s pride in its own culture and resources.
The show will be performed on the Sunrise Fountain stage, for an audience of 300 seated on its external side, with the cast accessing the performance area via the paths and steps leading up to it in a processional way reminiscent of traditional Peruvian folklore festivals. The 360° dome projection will provide the atmospheres for each segment of the show, based on the imagery used in the Panamarican Games Opening Ceremony, which will also be the source of the music and costumes for this celebration. Dome projection will also include “subtitles” for the poems and songs heard during the show.
Along with my colleagues, I was tasked with rendering the celebrations prepared for the National Day Ceremony, the day dedicated to Peru. The following is a brief extract of the planned show. Created using Photoshop.
Art Director: Francesca Martinazzo, Luca Taschini.
SYMPHONY OF LANGUAGES: National anthem & flag raising. A modernized reworking of the Peru National Anthem for the flag raising is performed by an inclusive cast in all the languages of Peru and in sign language.
PAGO A LA TIERRA: An ancestral sacrifice to Mother Earth, connecting man and woman to nature, past to present and future starts the show, a 20 minutes feast of songs and dance that is Peru’s gift to Expo2020.
THE DUET: Having gathered knowledge, a young Peruvian tenor representing the future of Peruvian art pays homage to the great Chabuca Granda, the musical soul of Peru, in a duet between present and past.
MODERN LIMA: An exuberant and youthful street party showing the vibrant chicha street art, music and dance of modern Lima.
